Google has just made some significant new announcements regarding health and fitness. To start, there’s a new fitness tracker called the Fitbit Air, and they also announced a new Google Health app and Google Health Coach. Fitbit Air: A screenless fitness tracker with 7-day battery life Positioned as Google’s smallest fitness tracker yet, the Fitbit Air adopts a screenless design to help users stay present and avoid constant distraction from notifications. The tracker features a lightweight chassis made from recycled polycarbonate and PBT plastics, paired with a textile band and stainless steel buckle. Including the band, the Fitbit Air weighs just 12g. Despite its minimalist approach, Google has equipped the Fitbit Air with a range of advanced health sensors, including an optical heart rate monitor, as well as red and infrared sensors. These enable the device to track metrics such as steps, calories burned, cardio load, sleep quality, heart rate, heart rate variability, and breathing rate. Battery life is another key highlight. Google claims the Fitbit Air can last up to seven days on a single charge. A quick five-minute top-up provides up to one full day of usage, while a complete recharge takes approximately 90 minutes. Google Health app: Hub for your health and wellness data Google will update the Fitbit app to the new Google Health app, which brings together fitness, sleep, recovery, and activity data into a single dashboard. It comes with several features such as: - A more intuitive layout with four tabs (Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health) - Customisability of the dashboards for quick access to your preferred metrics - Compatibility with hundreds of apps (e.g., Health Connect, Apple Health, MyFitnessPal) and devices - Expanded leaderboards to keep track of your progress and compare with your friends Google is also introducing Google Health Premium, a subscription tier priced at S$12.98 per month. The service offers science-backed insights, personalised weekly workout plans, detailed sleep analysis, proactive wellness recommendations, guided mindfulness sessions, and access to workout libraries led by professional trainers and instructors. Google Health Coach: Powered by Gemini As part of the new Google Health app, Google Health Coach is a a personalised fitness coach, sleep expert, and wellness advisor. Powered by Gemini, it analyses data across your connected devices and apps to deliver tailored recommendations and timely insights. In short, the app is designed to “connect the dots” across your shared health data. According to Google, this AI health assistant was built to proactively help users improve their health habits and achieve long-term wellness goals through a more personalised and holistic experience. Availability and Pricing Priced at S$189, the Fitbit Air is now available for pre-order at the Google Store, Best Denki, Fairprice, Metapod, Shopee, Lazada, and Amazon.
